The Best Way to get Strong:

Many fitness fads have come and gone over the years , but one fitness tool that came on the scene over 150 years ago has stood the test of time.  Why do many tools come and go in a few years while just a few stick around?  Effectiveness.  If they work, they stick around; if they don’t, people stop buying them from infomercials.

This tool that has stood the test of time is the best tool to develop maximal strength.  It’s not sexy, it’s not hi-tech, it will never tell you you’re doing great when you’re not, it’s…the barbell.  Heavy metal plates attached to the ends of a metal bar.  Nothing fancy, but still unmatched in effectiveness and the tool of choice for most of the very strong people in the world.

What about dumbbells?  What about kettlebells?  Also useful.  But, when it comes to developing pure strength, stability is important.  More stability means you can use heavier weights.  Training with heavier weights means you can lift more weight.  If you can lift more weight, you are–by definition–stronger.  Barbells are more stable than dumbbells or kettlebells, thus they have an advantage for maximal strength training.  Dumbbells have an advantage in developing balanced strength between both sides of the body;  kettlebells can be used for more dynamic, multi-planar movements than barbells.  These are important advantages that justify the use of dumbbells and kettlebells in a comprehensive strength/athleticism training program, but they can’t replicate the pure strength benefits of the barbell.

Are you training with barbells?  If you’re not, you’re missing out.  If you want to start, but don’t know where to begin, get in touch with me via email or text message and we’ll get you started right away.
